What Customers Say About 97 Octane:

97 Octane was released in the most abundant year in electronica history, 1997, and the album was a highlight, although it was underrated compared to some of the more popular albums of that year such as Chemical Brothers' Dig Your Own Hole and Roni Size's New Forms. Before Dieselboy revolutionzed dark drum-and-bass with 6ixth Session, projectHUMAN, and Dungeonmaster's Guide, he was known as a DJ in the techstep genre. 97 Octane was the best album of his techstep era and one of the genre's very best, if not THE best. If you are familiar with hardcore techno and want to expand your horizons a little bit, I highly recommend this. Later on, Dieselboy would expand his sound and rival the impressiveness level with projectHUMAN and Dungeonmaster's Guide, but 97 Octane is the album where his ambition first took off in exhilirating fashion and revealed his potential. Twelve songs, each about six minutes apiece and they are put together in mix form.

Roni Size is not as good at mixing as Dieselboy and Dieselboy uses less vocals on his albums, making him the superior DJ. And he was one of the genre's masters. In my opinion, this album is even better than New Forms because there is no filler on the album. This is one of Dieselboy's very best mixes and I have most of his albums. Techstep sounds like jungle with heavy basslines thrown in here and there. In my opinion, this is the best drum-and-bass album of the 90's.

A-

When you compare it to his newer albums, this one has the most bass. this is a reveiw of my recent purchase of 97 Octane. a really good mix CD from Deiselboy. This CD can get very loud. On a side note, fast shipping and the cd is barely scratched.Great job guys.

only in recent years have i gotten into drum and bass after listening to industrial metal (ie ministry) and progressive trance and deep trance on the techno side. When trying to figure out why---i realize it's because it's too simple and basic. For this reason, i find 97 Octane a pretty boring listen. i later decided to get Dungeionmasters Guide, which remains my favorite D and B album. I've not given up on Dieselboy, as i'm now awaiting the arrival of Project Human, which i hope yields a better opinion. But i wanted more and scouted the internet (ie Amazon) for some recommendations. i heard 6th Session through a friend, taped it, and really enjoyed it. It's essentially JUST basslines and various cymbal hits.not like Dungeonmasters or 6th Session that seem to have more going on, more commotion if you will.

After reading the plentiful praising reviews for 97 Octane, it sounded like a mix i had to have. After having this CD for a couple months now and listening to it enough to get an honest feel for it, i must say i'm very disappointed. Outside of 4 or 5 tracks on the first half on the album, it does nothing for me. I need a greater wall of sound, a greater variety of sounds, and a higher-energy feel than this provides for me. But this is one i don't expect to listen to very often.

this is easily dieselboy's best mix cd.i wish he still spun stuff like this instead of all that trancey d&b that he spins now.

i've been listening to it for 5 years, and it still holds my attention from start to finish. i've gotta agree with the speaker blowin comments.i've killed one of my car speakers and a boombox with this album (beware of substance - lf ant):P. If you've never heard a dieselboy album or seen him spin live, start out with this one. superb mix-n-blend, wicked sub bass, and aggressive but not overly frenetic breaks make this a great driving album (almost as fun to drive to as dance to). big ups to mista higgins for holdin it down proper.
